MiSCA MTB clinic Volunteers needed

The Lake Orion after school program is partnering with MiSCA to plan a MTB clinic for youth on June 11 at Lake Orion High School. The clinic will run from 9:00-4:00 and will include riding and repair skills, bike games, and a small race at the end.

We are looking for adults who are willing to help teach the attendees. We need volunteers that can work the clinic from 8:00-4:00 pm, which includes helping at bike check in during registration. Before we advertise the program and begin accepting entries we want to make sure we will have enough volunteers.

Please ask your team if anyone would like to help and have them reply to me by next Friday, April 22. If we have enough people respond to proceed with the clinic we will schedule an orientation night on Tuesday, May 31 at 6:30 to become familiar with the trails and agenda that will be used.

MiSCA stands for Michigan Inter-Scholastic Cycling Association. It is a state wide orginization that is attempting to involve 6th - 12th grade students in cycling of all kinds.

Ideally the kids would have a club through their own school that would eventually allow the schools to compete against each other in racing, just like basketball, soccer, football and other sports.

RBS has formed what is known as a composite team, our team will be available for any students without a school club to join. Currently we have kids from Pontiac, Shelby Twp, and Rochester that really just want to get out and ride.

A race series is being put on this fall for the "teams" to compete against each other. Since this is like any other sport, the kids need to put in time on their bikes after school and on the weekends. This is where the RBS Cycling Team comes in.

We are looking for volunteers to lead a ride once, twice or more a month. Rides will vary in length and day of the week, from now through October. If you are interested in helping or have a 6th - 12th grade child that would like to participate, please contact me and I will put you intouch with the ladies leading the team.
